A national competition open to all UK architects attracted 977 applications and 377 entries our scheme was shortlisted to the final 30 and subject of a public exhibition.
The scheme was costed by AL Smith (Quantity Surveyors) @ £2.5M much the same level as most of the other shortlisted entrants, the winner was just £0.5m which obviously appealed to the clients.
It is not every day that you have a chance to extend a building by Sir John Soane and we much enjoyed the scheme development exploring the imagery and associations that follow with such a significant context.
